Christine Alvarenga, LPCC
Christine Alvarenga, LPCC is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, certified EMDR therapist, and consultant-in-training, specializing in trauma and eating disorders for adults (18+). With a strong commitment to trauma-informed care, Christine works with individuals both with and without eating disorders, helping them process and heal from the profound effects of trauma. Her client-centered approach, grounded in evidence-based modalities, supports individuals in overcoming past wounds and developing the skills necessary for long-term emotional health and resilience.
Christine incorporates Internal Family Systems (IFS) into her work, helping clients explore and understand the different parts of themselves, especially those that may have been shaped by past trauma. This approach, alongside other modalities like EMDR and DBT, helps individuals reconnect with their core self, fostering healing and emotional integration.
Christine’s expertise in the field began in 2014 when she first started working with individuals struggling with eating disorders. Over the years, she has worked across all levels of care, including residential treatment, partial hospitalization programs (PHP), and intensive outpatient programs (IOP). Christine’s experience spans a broad range of therapeutic settings, and she has worked with adults, adolescents, individuals, groups, couples, and families. She received clinical supervision from Amber Monroe from 2018 to 2020, further developing her trauma expertise and enhancing her ability to support clients through complex emotional challenges.
As part of her clinical training, Christine piloted an individual Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills program at an adult women’s eating disorder residential treatment center, gaining 8 years of experience in DBT skill coaching. In 2019, she supported the launch of a program that integrated trauma-informed modalities, including EMDR and neurofeedback, into the treatment of eating disorders. This experience reinforced Christine's belief in the transformative power of trauma therapy, not only for those with eating disorders but for anyone seeking healing from traumatic experiences.
Christine has been practicing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) since 2019 and became a certified EMDR therapist in 2021. Additionally, she is trained in the Flash Technique, a rapid intervention designed to alleviate the emotional intensity of distressing memories. She has also pursued advanced training in working with attachment trauma and dissociation, allowing her to support individuals who are navigating the impacts of complex trauma.
Her trauma-informed approach recognizes the unique and often layered nature of trauma, whether it’s related to eating disorders, relational dynamics, or other life experiences. Christine is dedicated to helping clients of all backgrounds understand and heal from the wounds of the past, empowering them to reclaim their lives, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and build deeper emotional connections.
